چکیده

"Determining surface orientations of transparent objects based on polarization degrees in visible and infrared wavelengths," 1 Techniques for modeling an object through observation are very important i n o b j e c t recognition and virtual reality. A wide variety o f t e c hniques have been developed for modeling objects with opaque surfaces, whereas less attention has been paid to objects with transparent surfaces. A transparent surface has only surface reeectionn it has little body reeection. This paper presents a new method for obtaining surface orientations of transparent surfaces through analysis of the degree of polarization in surface reeection in visible and far infrared wavelengths, respectively. This parameter , the polarization degree of reeected light in the visible wavelength, is used for determining the surface orientation at a surface point. The polarization degree in visible wavelengths provides two solutions, and the proposed method uses the polarization degree in the far infrared wavelength to resolve this ambiguity.

Techniques for modeling an object through observation are very important in object recognition and virtual reality. A wide variety of techniques have been developed for modeling objects with opaque surfaces, whereas less attention has been paid to objects with transparent surfaces. A transparent surface has only surface reflection; it has little body reflection. We present a new method for obta...

Measurement of Surface Orientations of Transparent Objects Using Polarization in Highlight

This paper proposes a method for obtaining surface orientations of transparent objects using polarization in highlight. Since the highlight, the specular component of reflection light from objects, is observed only near the specular direction, it appears merely limited parts on an object surface. In order to obtain orientations of a whole object surface, we employ a spherical extended light sou...

MEASURING SURFACE SHAPE OF TRANSPARENT OBJECTS BASED ON THE ANALYSIS OF POLARIZATION THERMAL RADIATION AND GEOMETRICAL PROPERTY by

In the eld of computer vision many methods which measure the surface shape of opaque objects have been proposed however a successful method which measures the surface shape of transparent objects such as glasses has never been developed In this paper we propose a convenient and bene cial method to measure the surface shape of transparent objects The light which is re ected from the surface of t...

Shape from polarization in the far IR applied to 3D digitization of transparent objects

This paper presents an application of “shape from polarization” method in the far Infrared range with applications for three-dimensional reconstruction of transparent objects. Shape from polarization is a recent application of more general polarization imaging technique having the aim to digitize the shape of the observed object. The principle is to evaluate the normal on each observed point fo...
